Uyuni Salt Lake Tour
Up on this page there is the map of the tour. We headed from Tupiza to the southeast of the country. And we finished in Uyuni, a little town near the salt lake. We´ve been through all the points marked in the map. The tour was great, for 4 days and 3 nights. The weather was freezing cold, sometimes the temperature dropped down to 0º C. And we got to places where the altitude was of 5000 metres over sea level. I had to take altitude sickness pills, thanks god they were effective! We slept in very basic lodges in the middle of nowhere, and spent the whole day in the jeep getting off in the important spots. There was only one bedroom per group, haha! part of the adventure. There was a cook per group travelling on each jeep. Groups were of no more than 5 people each. Food was yummy and fresh.
The driver of our jeep was sloooow though:). The guys got impatient with him as the driver from the other group was overtaking us very easily all the time. I asked our guy to speed it up a little bit but he didn´t seem to have a lot of experience on teh road..
First night we slept in San Antonio de Lípez, a little village 4,870 mts over sea level. They had electricity just for the light of the eatery area and the rooms. No mention of hot water at this point. And the weather was freezing cold! The highlight from this place was the stuffed dead condor in one of the abandoned rooms where the guys took a session of photos after a few drinks! can´t wait for those pics!
The second day we stopped in Aguas Calientes, a place with a small pool with hot spring water, it was delicious after a day and a half without a shower! On the same day we went to Laguna Verde where Licancabur volcano could be appreciated behind the lagoon and also the flamingos added extra points to the beauty of the place. We also visited the geisers.
The third day we went to Laguna Colorada (red lagoon), gorgeous, which is located in a national reserve (national reserve of Andean Fauna Eduardo Abaroa). we also went past another 5 lagoons, the stone tree and that night we slept in the Salt Hotel in San Juan, where we could take a hot shower, except for Bass that was caught up by a broken shower...
On the fourth day we got up early enough to see the sunrise by the Salt Lake, which was astonishingly huge and magnificent and we took loads of funny pics. Those will be uploaded later on since my camera got broken in the Dali Desert days before, with the wind and dust. We had breakfast in Isla del Pescado (Fish Island) nearby the salt lake.
The most outstanding places were Laguna Kollpa (in this pic), Laguna Colorada, with loads of flamingos, the Licancabur volcano in the border with Chile and nearby Laguna Verde and the geisers. Ollagüe volcano, also in Chile, still active, is amazing either (from the distance the small smoke could be seen). And the big highlight of course was the Uyuni Salt Lake, with its surface of 13,000 km2 surrounded by more than 60 islands.
We decided to finish the tour in Uyuni a small town nearby the Salt Lake. On that same night we headed to Oruro by train, 8 hs trip. The train arrived in Uyuni at 2 am with one hour delay. Once in Oruro, we headed to La Paz by bus, where we got after 3 hs trip.

And next day another big adventure was ahead: El Choro trecking.
(this pic was taken at the geisers).

Hola Dani!
Me alegra mucho q Bolivia te esté tratando bien...
Kari
